COMMUNITY OUTREACH

For the past 5 years we have organized a workshop for the CURIE Academy, a one-week summer residential program for approximately 40 female high school juniors and seniors who excel in math and science and want to learn more about a career in science and technology.

BME Girl Scouts Engineering Day

Our lab members deliver hands-on demos to over 100 girl scouts each year to teach basics of biomedical engineering. Our modules provide exposure to modern drug delivery and polymers in biotechnology. Photo shows Monet leading a demo on polymers to some visiting scouts.

Upward Bound

This outreach event invites first generation prospective college students to campus to perform hands-on scientific activities.  Our lab members plan and lead interactive activities, including DNA extraction from fruits and approaches for drug delivery.

W.O.M.E.N. Outreach, Ithaca

W.O.M.E.N. is a program designed to promote participation of women in technology fields.  Our lab members have designed several laboratories that teach basic principles of biotechnology and bioengineering. Photo shows Carolyn leading a demo.

Ithaca Youth Bureau

Our lab members serve as mentors and tutors in the local community as part of the Ithaca Youth Bureau. This unique program provides continuous mentorship to students through their formative years from middle school through the end of high school.
